Welcome to the awesomely fun exploration of Chair Yoga! As most of you know I absolutely love the chair for so many different reasons that it would be hard to list them. And I’m hoping that if you weren’t sure about the chair, that this practice will open your minds to its beauty! It’s a full proper practice, we go deep, we spend time and by the end we are transformed. The sequence starts with a series of Adho Mukha Svanasanas and Uttanasanasas. We then move into Standing Poses: Trikonasana, Utthita Hasta Padanguthasana, Virabhadrasana II, Viranbhadrasana I, Parivrtta Parsvakonasana and Prasarita Padottanasana before transitioning into a sequence of twists and shoulder openers that lead the way to Back Bendings. First is Usturasana, explored from a variety of fascinating facets with the support of chair. These are followed by 3 delicious heart bursting Urdhva Dhanurasanas. The practice then journeys through a long immersive Sarvangasana and Baddha Konasana in Sarvangasana, followed by a Chair Setu Bandha Sarvangasana. I only recently discovered this variation and am excited to share it here with you… We end with a special Savasana where the skull is hanging from a strap (an unusual and truly freeing experience) before emerging, back into our worlds, refreshed spacious and hopefully feeling that we’ve learnt and experienced new dimensions.
